Davenport Air Quality Issue |

|
Issue:In response to the discovery of elevated Chromium-6 (also known as Chrome-6, Cr(VI), Hexavalent chrome) levels in air samples around cement plants in southern California, the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District (Air District) conducted air sampling around the CEMEX Plant in Davenport. The results of the testing in June, July, and August of this year, revealed Chromium-6 levels greater than the allowed standard. On October 3, 2008 the Air District issued a Proposition 65 Notification (please click here to view this document) to the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors and the County’s Health Officer of this discovery. The Santa Cruz County Environmental Health Service (SCC EHS) followed up with a Public Health Advisory for the Davenport area (please click here to view this document). On January 26, 2009 the County Health Officer determined that there is not an imminent public health hazard related to chromium VI in fugitive dust from the Cemex plant at this time (please click here to view this document).
