California Food Handler Card Law

Pursuant to State Law (SB 602 and SB 303), food handlers, as defined, must obtain a food handler card after taking an ANSI-approved food safety training course and passing an assessment.  Due to concerns regarding the implementation of the new law and the compliance deadline of July 1, 2011 Santa Cruz County will limit enforcement of the law to notification and education until January 1, 2012.

After January 1, 2012, all non-exempt food handlers must possess a California Food Handlers Card.
