 DEFINITION

Under direction,† plans, organizes, develops, implements, and coordinates: strategic initiatives to provide resources for developing †Animal Shelter services, marketing/public relations/community/volunteer outreach activities and programs for the department; develops marketing and public relations plans and oversees the implementation of activities associated with these functions; and performs other work as required.

 DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This class is responsible for coordination, operation and delivery of Animal Shelter community outreach, volunteer, and public/media relations programs. This job class serves as a resource to other managers and staff within the Animal Shelter in a designated area of expertise and coordinates and/or initiates community outreach/public relations programs across operational and/or programmatic units. The employee in this classification represents the Animal Shelter and its programs in a variety of community and media forums. The incumbent has professional and management responsibility for the cultivation, development, and monitoring of resources for development and improvement projects.

Education and Experience:

 Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

Three years of progressively responsible experience coordinating and/or managing public relations, community outreach, program development and/or program management functions in public or private organizations; AND college coursework equivalent to two years of undergraduate level studies in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, Communications, Speech or a closely related field.

 

Additional experience coordinating and/or directing marketing/public relations/community/volunteer outreach services may be substituted for the required coursework on a year-for-year basis.

 

Desired Qualification:

Possession of a Bachelorís Degree from an accredited college or university in† Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, Communications, Speech or a closely related field.

 

 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, CONDITIONS:

 

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California class C driver license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
