Under close supervision, assist with recreational aquatic classes; ensure the safety and well being of program participants; and perform other duties as required.
Aquatic Aide is the trainee level in the Aquatics Program. Incumbents work under close supervision and may not be included in the required staff to participant ratios. Upon receipt of the appropriate certification and experience, Aquatic Aides may qualify to become Lifeguards, or Aquatic Supervisors.
Assist with recreational aquatic programs; maintain order; ensure the safety and well being of program participants; enforce and follow policies and procedures; communicate with parents of program participants; set up prior to, and clean up after program activities; write and maintain program records; collect and account for fees; transport supplies; notify supervisor of unusual problems disturbances and emergencies; attend meetings; administer first aid; and may act as a liaison between program and field staff.

Special Requirements, Conditions:
Certificate, Training Requirements: Must successfully complete departmental training to obtain a certification in Community Aid and Safety, prior to assisting at an aquatics site.
Background Investigation: Fingerprinting is required.
Special Working Conditions: Some positions may involve exposure to variable temperatures and weather conditions; strong and unpleasant odors and fumes; noise from children; allergens such as poison oak, pollen, and bee stings; pool chemical fluctuations which might cause irritation to eyes and skin; and the possibility of administering first aid which may involve exposure to infections which might cause chronic disease or death.
Other Special Requirements: Availability to work variable schedules including evenings, weekends and holidays; and may be required to furnish identification or uniform items.
