Under direction, to install, repair and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment; and to do other work as required.
This single position class is assigned work at the journey level to install, repair and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment. Maintenance Electrician is distinguished from other maintenance classes in that specialized knowledge is required to perform work assigned. This position may work irregular hours and be assigned on-call duty.
Installs and maintains electrical panel boards, conduits, circuits, fixtures, motor starters and controls, switches, outlets and other electrical equipment according to approved codes; repairs electrical circuits and equipment such as generators, power control panels, alternators and distribution systems; identifies causes for electrical failures or malfunctions; replaces worn or inadequate wiring; tests circuits and determines requirements for additional electrical equipment; plans circuitry paths or modifies electrical systems to accommodate new construction or existing facility alteration; estimates costs and materials required; reads and interprets blue prints, schematic diagrams and sketches to perform installation, maintenance and repairs; maintains records of work performed and prepares reports; may supervise workers assigned to assist on various projects.
Training and Experience: Any combination of training and technical experience, which would provide the knowledge and abilities, listed above. Typical ways to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of an apprenticeship program as an electrician and certification as such from the Apprenticeship Standards Division of the State of California Industrial Relations Department.
Five years full-time, or its equivalent, progressively responsible experience in commercial or industrial electrical maintenance work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License.
