CHIEF DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY, ADMINISTRATION
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY
Under general direction, to plan, organize and direct the operation of the Administrative Division of the District Attorney's Office; to serve as a member of the management team; to act for the District Attorney as assigned; and to do other work as required.
This is a single position class which serves under the direction and at the pleasure of the District Attorney. This class is distinguished from Chief Deputy District Attorney in that the latter is responsible for the day-today Criminal Prosecution and other legal services of the department, and acts on behalf of the District Attorney in criminal matters.
Plans, organizes and directs and evaluates through subordinate managers the work of non-legal staff in the following functions: Family Support, Consumer Affairs and Administrative Services including fiscal control and planning, budget administration, data processing, personnel, office systems, purchasing and clerical support; oversees the preparation and fiscal control of the departmental budget; designs and implements accounting and control systems for the budget, grants and projects; prepares and/or oversees the preparation of the fiscal portion of complex reports, grant applications and bid requests; analyzes the need for automated management and record-keeping systems; oversees and coordinates with staff and information services experts; plans, develops and implements the Departmental staff training and education program which includes attorneys and other professional staff; oversees and/or studies workload and staffing, space requirements, capital outlay projects, organization and makes recommendations and changes as appropriate; serves as a team member of the management team with the responsibility for researching and recommending long range plans and system wide projects; implements long range plans, system projects and policies and procedures; supervises the office's Equal Opportunity and Safety Program; manages and/or oversees the use of space and equipment for the department; represents the District Attorney at meetings and conferences as assigned; acts as a resource and internal consultant to staff, other County departments and local law enforcement agencies; prepares correspondence and reports; attends and/or conducts meetings and conferences.
Three years of responsible management or supervisory experience which would demonstrate possession and application of the knowledge and abilities listed above.
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's license or the employee must be able to provide suitable transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.
