CHIEF OF STAFF – BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Under direction, to plan, organize, and coordinate office management and administration for the Board of Supervisors, and act as a confidential representative on behalf of the Board of Supervisors; and to do other work as required.
This is a single position classification and is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating office management and administration for the Board of Supervisors. This position is appointed by the chairperson and serves at the pleasure of all members of the Board of Supervisors. This position receives a wide variety of assignments which require knowledge of community interests and governmental functions, entail considerable contact with community groups, officials and individuals, and emphasize collecting and analyzing information on issues affecting County government business.
Investigates expressed concerns from the public; responds to individual requests for information on governmental functions; officially represents the Board of Supervisors when working with departments and other agencies provides advice and assistance to groups or individuals in obtaining services or resolving complaints; inputs, accesses and analyzes data using a computer; plans, organizes and coordinates office management and administration for the Board of Supervisors office; develops and monitors the Department budget; selects, trains and evaluates clerical support staff; schedules and prioritizes work; develops and recommends policies and procedures then implements, as approved; researches requests to take action on pending legislation and recommends appropriate actions; serves as a liaison to the press on issues related to the Board's office as a whole; reviews incoming mail to the Chairperson of the Board and/or to the Board as a whole, researches issues and prepares responses; trains and orients new employees; answers inquiries from County departments, community agencies and the public; monitors Board actions and keeps current on pending issues; edits drafts; composes correspondence including letters, memoranda and proclamations; oversees the preparation of the written correspondence portion of the Board agenda; monitors the appointment of commission and committee members; attends meetings.
Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities listed above is qualifying.
