Under direction, plans, promotes, implements, coordinates and supervises the daily activities of a variety of aquatics programs, including but not limited to public swim, special events, adult fitness, water aerobics, swim lessons, lifeguard training, Red Cross certification, water polo, junior lifeguards and facility usage; supervises the work of aquatics program staff; schedules a variety of aquatics programs; and performs other work as required.
This class differs from the higher level of Aquatics Supervisor in that the latter has overall program responsibility for its assignment, and provides direction to the Aquatics Coordinator. Aquatics Coordinators plan, implement and coordinate the daily activities of their assigned programs. Aquatics Coordinator differs from the class of Aquatics Program Specialist in that the latter is focused on training lifeguards and the public in water rescue and water safety, supervising aquatic aides and lifeguards and enforcing safety policies in the aquatics facilities, while the Aquatics Coordinator coordinates multiple aquatics programs and supervises assigned staff, including Aquatics Program Specialists.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of college with major coursework in recreation or related field and one year of experience coordinating or supervising aquatics program activities or aquatics special events.
Three years of experience coordinating or supervising aquatics and/or recreation program activities or special events, at least one year of which must be in aquatics.
of a valid American Red Cross (ARC) lifeguard training certificate*;
Possession of a valid ARC CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro) certificate* or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Profession (Provider C);
* Acceptable Lifeguard and CPR Certifications include:
American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid
The American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
The American Red Cross CPR – AED for Lifeguards
Post-employment certifications required within six months of hire:
Fingerprinting is required.
Special Working Conditions:
Exposure to variable temperatures and weather conditions; strong and unpleasant odors and fumes such as chlorine; noise from children; allergens such as poison oak, pollen, and bee stings; pool chemical fluctuations which might cause irritation to eyes and skin; and the possibility of administering first aid which may involve exposure to infections which might cause chronic disease or death.
