DEFINITION
Under direction, installs, repairs and maintains a variety of electrical systems and equipment; and performs other work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This single position class is assigned work at the advanced journey level to install, repair and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment. Senior Maintenance Electrician is distinguished from the Maintenance Electrician and other maintenance classes in that the Senior Maintenance Electrician performs maintenance and repair of the most difficult and complex electrical systems and equipment and may act as a lead worker which requires specialized knowledge to perform work assigned. This position may work irregular hours and be assigned on-call duty.
TYPICAL TASKS
Train lower level staff; provide input on performance evaluations and scheduling; installs and maintains electrical panel boards, conduits, circuits, fixtures, motor starters and controls, switches, outlets and other electrical equipment according to approved codes; repairs electrical circuits and equipment such as generators, transfer switches, power control panels, alternators and distribution systems; cleans, repairs and maintains electrical equipment such as controls, motors and generators; identifies causes for electrical failures or malfunctions; replaces worn or inadequate wiring; tests circuits and determines requirements for additional electrical equipment; plans circuitry paths or modifies electrical systems to accommodate new construction or existing facility alteration; climbs ladders; install panel boards, switch boxes, pull boxes and other related devices; measure, cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits and other kinds of electrical conductor enclosures, which connect panels, boxes, outlets and other devices; estimates costs and materials required; reads and interprets blue prints, schematic diagrams and sketches to perform installation, maintenance and repairs; maintains records of work performed and prepares reports; may act as a lead worker to Maintenance Electricians; may supervise workers assigned to assist on various projects.

Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the knowledge and abilities, is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. Typical ways to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be:
Completion of an apprenticeship program as an electrician and certification as such from the Apprenticeship Standards Division of the State of California Industrial Relations Department AND two years of full-time experience in commercial or industrial maintenance work.
OR
Six years full-time, or its equivalent, progressively responsible experience in commercial or industrial electrical maintenance work. Two years must be at the journey level or higher.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License. Note: Candidates with an out of state license may apply and go through recruitment and examination process, however verification of California License must be provided at time of appointment.
· Possession and maintenance of a valid certification by the State of California Department of Industrial Relations as a General Electrician OR a C-10 license issued by the California Contractors State License Board.
· Background Investigation: Fingerprinting is required.
